Her Royal Highness the Duchess of York invited several seriously ill children and their parents to spend a day with her and her daughters Princess Beatrice and Eugenie during Christmas 1994. Jordan, with his Mum and Dad, Brendan and Rachel were among those invited to the Duchesses home.
The occasion was captured by 'Hello' magazine and Jordan is pictured on the Duchesses knee, with the Duchesses cheek nestling Jordan's head!
The Duchess was asked by 'Hello Magazine ', 'What's the best Christmas present you've ever had?' and she replies ' Seeing the happiness of a child surrounded by presents. This year I feel truly happy, bringing together fifteen or so children around the Christmas tree with my own girls and seeing the happy smiles of those who are ill, fragile, or perhaps spending their last Christmas on earth'. The Duchess goes on to say about Jordan 'And there's the look of wonder on eight month-old Jordan's face. he has the sad privelege of being one of only two children in the world to suffer from a particularly rare disease, which is incurable.'
The Duchess found out about Jordan through a mutual friend who knew the Stokes's, the other UK TPI family who live in Chesterfield, Derbyshire. When she was told about Jordan Stokes, she immediately offered to help through her Charity 'Children In Crisis'.
The Duchess made a personal donation of £5,000 to the 'James Stewardson TPI Trust'.
